Frequently asked questions
Everything hospitals ask us about Zarur: the product, pricing and trial, setup, safety and privacy, and languages.
Product
What is Zarur?
Zarur is an AI voice receptionist for hospitals. It answers your hospital's phone calls, books, reschedules and cancels appointments, and tells callers about doctor availability, timings, departments, fees and general hospital information.
Does Zarur give medical advice or handle emergencies?
No. Zarur does not give medical advice. If a caller describes an emergency, Zarur transfers the call live to your hospital desk. For life-threatening emergencies, callers should call 108.
What happens if a patient wants to cancel an appointment?
Zarur confirms the details with the caller before it cancels anything, so appointments are not cancelled by mistake.
Does Zarur know when a doctor is on leave?
Yes. Zarur follows your live doctor schedules. Leave, breaks, session changes and blocked doctors apply immediately.
How many calls can Zarur answer at the same time?
Call lines are allocated to each hospital, so your callers never wait because another hospital is busy. Extra lines are available if you need more. Contact us to find the right number for your hospital.
What can each role do in the portal?
There are six hospital roles, and each login sees only its own pages.
Admin (usually the owner) sets up the hospital: doctors with their availability, breaks and leave, departments, facilities, user accounts, the hospital profile and the AI voice. Admins also manage patients and bookings and see the activity log.
Receptionist creates, cancels, reschedules and edits appointments and gets booking notifications. Nurse has the same booking rights, plus the nurse desk with the doctor's queue and an emergency flag.
Doctor sees only their own appointments, with a queue, history, notes, prescriptions, tests and a printable sheet, and cannot change bookings. Pharmacy manages medicines, stock, suppliers, purchases, sales and returns, with expiry, stock value, GST and Schedule H1 reports. Auditor has a read-only view of the hospital's activity log.
Does Zarur work on WhatsApp too?
Yes. Zarur's WhatsApp agent chats with patients in natural language, answers questions and books appointments. After a booking it sends a confirmation, then a reminder before the visit. Zarur can also call the patient the day before to confirm, so fewer slots sit empty.
Pricing & trial
How much does Zarur cost?
Call usage is billed per minute: Basic is ₹5/min (up to 10 doctors), Pro is ₹4.50/min (up to 35 doctors), and Enterprise is ₹4/min (a custom plan for larger hospitals). Server running costs, if any, are shared in your quote before you start. Prices are introductory, exclude GST and may change.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. You can try Zarur free for 7 days or 1,000 minutes, whichever comes first. You don't need a card, because we set up the trial directly with your hospital. When the trial ends, the service stops. We then share insights from your trial period along with an offer.
Is a phone number included?
Yes. Zarur gives you a phone number at no extra cost. You can also keep your existing hospital number and forward it to Zarur.
Setup & integration
How long does setup take?
In about a day. Faster when there is less to enter: hospital, doctors, departments and schedules.
Does Zarur work with our existing hospital software (HIS/HMS)?
Not today. Appointments, doctors, the nurse desk, the doctor portal and pharmacy all run inside the Zarur portal, so these don't need a separate system. Connections to other HIS/HMS software are not available yet.
Can we keep our existing hospital phone number?
Yes, you can forward your existing number to Zarur.
How does our hospital sign the data processing agreement?
You accept Zarur's data processing agreement (DPA) online. A person authorised by your hospital accepts it either with an email and one-time code (OTP) or by ticking a checkbox. We keep a record of the acceptance. The DPA also includes your agreement that Zarur may use anonymised data to improve the service, and lists our sub-processors by name.
What happens to our data if we stop using Zarur?
Before your contract ends, you can export your appointments, call history and patient list as CSV files. We delete your hospital's data within 90 days after the contract ends, or within 30 days if you ask us to delete it sooner. Backups are overwritten within about 30 days. We keep only what the law requires, such as logs for at least 1 year and billing records for 8 years.
Safety & privacy
How is our hospital's data protected?
Each hospital's data, including WhatsApp chats, is kept separate at the database level, and no other hospital can see it. Passwords are stored with strong hashing (Argon2). Logins are rate-limited, and accounts lock after repeated failed attempts. Password setup and reset use one-time codes. Sessions use secure cookies, and all traffic uses HTTPS, including connections to our service providers.
Can Zarur's team see our data?
Only when needed for support. Any access by Zarur's platform team appears in your hospital's own audit log, marked as "platform". The audit log cannot be edited. It records changes, logins and failed logins, views of sensitive records, platform access and bookings. Entries stay in the live log for 365 days by default (you can set anything from 30 to 3,650 days) and are then archived.
Are calls recorded?
Yes. Calls are recorded and transcribed so Zarur can book appointments and your hospital can review calls. Every call starts with a short announcement saying it is recorded and may be used to improve our service. Call audio is deleted within 12 months at most.
Is call data used to improve or train the AI?
Only in anonymised form. Your hospital agrees to this once, in its DPA. Call audio is deleted first. Transcripts and WhatsApp chats are stripped of names, phone numbers, ages, addresses, patient and doctor names and other identifiers, so no one can be identified. We may also use synthetic sample calls. Our speech and AI providers are contractually barred from training their own models on call data.
Which third-party services does Zarur use?
Zarur uses speech recognition and voice, AI language model, real-time voice infrastructure, telephony, WhatsApp messaging, email delivery, and cloud hosting and file storage providers. All of them are bound by contract. Data is processed in India where available; otherwise it is processed in other jurisdictions with appropriate safeguards. Each hospital receives the named list of sub-processors in its DPA. See our Privacy Policy.
Languages
Which languages does Zarur speak on calls?
Zarur understands callers in 60+ languages (including Malayalam, English, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Arabic), with automatic language detection and mid-call switching. Your hospital sets the default call language and chooses the AI voice from 200+ voices.
Can Zarur answer calls in Malayalam?
Yes. Zarur speaks natural Malayalam with patients and switches to English or another language mid-call if the caller does. Doctor names can be saved in Malayalam too. Hear a Malayalam sample call.
What language is the portal in?
The portal is in English. Doctor names can also be saved in Malayalam and other scripts.
